Becky, Ava, Clara, and Quint

 

Becky Irving
OSSA Type II Certified Searcher

   Becky is a mother of two and has been doing search and rescue since 1989. She got her beginning with a husky lab mix named Quigley whom she thought needed a job. Becky’s SAR experience includes disasters such as Oklahoma City Bombing in 1995 and the OSO Washington Mudslides of 2014. She has certified multiple canine partners in the disciplines of Wilderness Air Scent, Human Remains Detection, and Tracking and Trailing. When Becky isn’t on a mission or training her dogs she works as a Certified Veterinary Technician and Lead Surgery Technician at VCA Rock Creek Animal Hospital where she has worked for 30 years. Becky has earned the awards of VCA Hero of the year 2014, Portland WinterHawks Home Town Hero 2018, Portland Police Bureau’s Life Saving Award 2017, and been recognized as Mountain Waves Canine Handler of the year in 2015. Her past canine partner Brodie was awarded Oregon canine Hero of the year and inducted into the Oregon Animal Hall of Fame in 2011, and was awarded the AKC award of Meritorious Service to a community in 2014. Currently Becky has 3 canine partners.

Certified Human Remains Detection

   Ava worked with Becky from 2008 til 2018 when she retired. Ava has been credited with numerous finds but the most rememberable is the life saving find of the missing 2yr old toddler River. Ava was awarded VCA K9 Hero of the year in 2014 for her work in Oso Washington and 2017 Police Bureau’s life Saving Medal in 2017. Ava continues to live with Becky at home enjoying her retirement.

K9 Clara
Certified Urban Tracking and Trailing
AKC Canine Good Citizen

   Clara and Becky have been working together since 2011. Clara has been instrumental in several criminal cases as well has having many walk-up finds and dozens of confirmed trails. When not working, she is a Grand Champion confirmation show dog and has earned the highest of trailing titles awarded by the AKC of "Mantrailer Excellent."

   Quint is a Belgian Sheepdog and got his start in wilderness air scent in 2015, but the team decision was to change disciplines so he is working toward HRD certification. When Quint isn’t training he is in the show ring working toward his confirmation championship with his best friend Emily, (Becky’s daughter.)

 

Scott, Nexus, and Jett 

Scott Lee
OSSA Type II Certified Searcher

   Scott has been doing search and rescue for 16 years and has been involved in hundreds of missions including the OSO Washington Mudslides. When Scott isn’t doing SAR he works as a Arborist for a local tree service. He and his wife are currently puppy dog raisers for the Guide Dogs for the blind and have been involved with Guide Dogs for over 15 years. There is never a day that a Labrador is not in Scott's house. Scott’s past canine partner Lopez is credited for several finds but most notably locating a missing medically endangered adult male in Washington county in 2012. All of Scott's canine partners are career change canines from the Guide Dog program. 

K9 Nexus

  Nexus is a Labrador that came to Scott after spending time training in the Guide dog program. Having too much energy for a guide, Nexus converted easily to a search and rescue partner. Nexus has certified multiple times in Human Remains Detection and has had multiple confirmed finds. He has worked criminal cases as well as lost persons. When Nexus isn’t working he donates blood to the canine blood bank for Dove Lewis Emergency Clinic and enjoys lounging in a mud puddle.

AKC Canine Good Citizen 

   Jett is a Labrador that successfully passed the test for the Guide Dog program. Then an unfortunate jump landed him in Scott’s lap to be his next canine partner. Jett is full of energy and can’t help himself when it comes to being overjoyed to help people. Jett is being trained for Human Remains Detection and Wilderness Air Scent. When Jett isn’t training he enjoys playing with the newest puppy in the Lee household and showing them the rules of the house. 

 

Tom and Thor 

Tom Harper
OSSA Type II Certified Searcher

  Tom, who works for Intel, got his start with a German Shepherd puppy named Mica back in 2005. Tom has been on hundreds of missions including supporting teams at the OSO Mudslide in 2014. Tom was awarded the Portland Police Bureau’s Life Saving Award in 2017 for his participation in the life saving efforts and locating of the missing 2 year old toddler River. When Tom isn’t working and traveling for Intel he enjoys activities with his wife Kathy and also participating in Military reenactments from the Civil War. Tom’s last canine partner Mica was certified in Urban Tracking and Trailing and worked with Tom for 13 years with several confirmed trails.

K9 Thor
Certified Urban Tracking and Trailing

   Thor hails from Texas, earned his Urban Tracking and Trailing certification in 2019, and is well on his way to becoming a great working partner for Tom. When Thor isn’t training he enjoys walks through the neighborhood and time at the beach. 

 

Tim and Ranger

Tim Brown
OSSA Type II Certified Searcher

  Tim is a transplant from Search One K9 detection. He joined Mt. Wave in 2013 with his canine partner Bo who was certified in Wilderness Air Scent. Tim works for a Lumber company in Woodburn and is an avid outdoors person. He has been involved with search and rescue for 11 years. He thrives in SAR management and team building. When Tim isn’t doing SAR he enjoys time with his wife Danielle and enjoys the sun in Central Oregon. His past canine partner Bo had to suddenly retire at the age of 5 due to medical complications. Bo (pictured above) enjoyed retirement hanging with Tim’s nieces and nephews and being a SAR demonstration canine.

K9 Ranger
Training in Wilderness Air Scent

   Ranger is a 5 month old German Shepherd puppy that Tim got from rescue. He is planning on becoming Tim’s next Wilderness Air Scent and possibly Human remains detection partner. Right now Ranger is enjoying learning the new environments of training and getting lots of treats from missing "subjects."
